Why I Wrote This Chapter

My grandmother always believed I would write a book. She was a songwriter whose faith was woven into every lyric she wrote, and long before I had the confidence to believe I had something worth saying, she told me: one day, you'll write a book. I don't think she was speaking about my ability to write. I think she saw that one day I would have a story worth telling.

This is that story — a short, honest look at what it took to loosen my grip on the plans I'd made, and what I found waiting on the other side.
